Microsoft unveils new mobile operating system
While Windows Mobile phones as a category outsell leading rivals such as iPhone, it is the other guys that seem to get all the attention. It's hardly surprising. In my experiences testing devices, the Windows Mobile interface is more cumbersome to use than screens on competitors' phones. And there are few if any "iconic" Windows Mobile handsets

The tail end of 2008 was an exciting time for mobile phones. We had Android breaking the mould with the T-Mobile G1, Windows Mobile came of age with the HTC Touch HD and the Sony Ericsson X1, and we got the first touchscreen Blackberry, in the shape of the Storm. And yet, when it comes to ‘Best Mobile Phone’, every single one of those got its behind tanned by a little phone that has absolutely no illusions about being a smartphone.

Nokia, already a stakeholder in mobile OS maker Symbian, has announced that it will buy the remainder of the company and throw all the assets into a new platform called the Symbian Foundation, which will unite all the flavors of Symbian into a single, common software platform that will go open source in two years. Major mobile players such as Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone have all signed on.

Nokia 6230i live photosNokia

6230, the best Nokia phone in series 40, probably found its successor, the Nokia 6230i, as today a detailed photo gallery and information was published on PGCW.com.

A spy photo of this model was revealed for a first time in June 2004 and since then, no other related info. The PGCW.com is trustworthy, as it has previously unveiled other exclusive photos and information of future Nokia models.
Major differences of Nokia 6230i in comparison with 6230 are the integrated 1.3 MP camera (VGA, 640x480 pixels in 6230), memory of 16 MB (6 MB shared memory in 6230) and probably the most debated feature - it's display. PGCW.com says it is 128x160 pixels, but this is unlikely as the display is obviously quadratic. Other sources claim a size of 208x208 pixels.
The size is almost the same - 103 x 44 x 22 mm, weighting 104 g compared to 103 x 44 x 20 mm and 97 g of Nokia 6230. Other features are the same: tri-band, Polyphonic (24 channels), monophonic and MP3 ringtones, 1000 phonebook entries, MMC card slot, SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messaging, Java, Bluetooth, FM radio
Motorola at 3GSM - V6, V8, E1120At 3GSM World Congress

Motorola presented three 3G handsets - E1120, A1010 and E1060. Motorola E1120 comes with a 3 MP camera, QVGA display and dual speakers. Motorola A1010 Symbian UIQ smartphone features 2 MP camera, VPN support and Transflash card slot. Motorola E1060 targets the music fanatics.

The hugely anticipated BlackBerry Storm for Verizon Wireless is the world's first touchscreen BlackBerry, with a brilliant 3.25" display that uses the breakthrough SurePress technology. The Storm supports Verizon's high-speed EVDO network, and comes loaded with 1 GB of on-board memory, a 3.2-MP camera, a full featured web browser, and a removable battery. The full BlackBerry experience on a touchscreen device - it's set to take the world by storm.Highlights

Sony Ericsson unveiled two new 3G phones at 3GSM today - K600 and Z800. The Sony Ericsson K600 is very small for a 3G phone and features 262K color display, 1.3 MP camera, second video camera, FM radio and MP3 player (no memory card slot though). While the model name suggests the opposite, the K600 has a better feature set than the popular K700. The Sony Ericsson Z800 is the version of the already available Vodafone's V800 for the other networks.

Samsung plans to release some 20 smartphones to challenge the iPhone and Research In Motion's BlackBerry series, including a phone using the Google-backed Android operating system. In mature markets, Samsung execs say they want to expand the company's success in Britain and the U.S., where it edged past Nokia and Motorola

Nokia launch the 6700 classic as successor to 6300

It was one of the manufacturers all time best selling handsets, and now the Nokia 6300 has a successor. The Nokia 6700 classic is aimed at the same mid-range market, although taking a look at its spec sheet you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for a high-end device. Not only does the phone have a five-megapixel camera and HSDPA data access, but users will also be able to get themselves from A to B with the aid of assisted GPS navigation and Nokia Maps.Design wise and the Nokia 6700 classic keeps the same candybar format as the 6300, with a full metal keypad. Available in all black or silver and black, it also features the same ‘tap command' to mute the phone or display the clock as found on the Nokia 8800 Arte range. The Nokia 6700 classic will be available in the UK from July 2009 with an estimated retail price of £220 before taxes and subsidies.
